Field Sets

A continuation of seasonal pictures from a group of field set hunters.

Quail

In my attempt to get in one picture a dog on point and flushing birds what I thought was a pheasant point was quail and I did get two in the picture as brown blurs. The covey was large and surprising just how much faster they are than my reflex to take a picture. I shot more with my camera this year than my gun. Thanks.

The Other Side

The pork producers association has admitted it has lost its fight against the more "...active, and more socially and politically savvy [HSUS]..." in efforts to influence buyers.

One More

From a traveling hunter with a nice collection of mounts adds one more.

CRP

The 2007 Farm Bill is once more bogged down in politician wrangling as this congress continues the do nothing approach to governing that characterized the last several years. Perhaps more adverse in its long term effect are the various additions that have diluted the Farm Bill's core purpose.

"House lawmakers are proposing a new version of a wide-ranging farm bill in an attempt to appease the White House, which had contended that the legislation was full of wasteful spending...[avoidance rather than govern]...if the negotiations come to a stalemate, Congress might bypass an extension of current law — it expires March 15 — and allow farm policy to revert to permanent statutes last updated in 1949...That...would eliminate newer programs designed to protect environmentally sensitive land "

House Members Propose New Farm Bill, AP, Washington, by Mary Clare Jalonick.

For hunters that are members of any conservation group what is glaringly absent from all the newsworthy Farm Bill articles is any effort by any conservation group.

The Other Side

Lloyd from SC sent us this:

About C.A.S.H. The mission of C.A.S.H. -- the Committee to Abolish Sport Hunting -- is to accomplish what its name says in the shortest possible time.

"...a clear indication that hunting (the act of killing wildlife for recreation) attracts the most dangerously disturbed members of society, and it underscores the need for gun dealers and wildlife agencies to require applicants for gun licenses and hunting licenses undergo psychological evaluations as a condition of sale...." Joe Miele, vice president, Committee to Abolish Sport Hunting, New Paltz, N.Y.
