Upland Bird Hunt

A December hunt showing the results of two special days...

...one field, one hunter, one dog, five shells. The rooster without the tail was a two shot runner the dog brought in...

...true triple. Dog steady to point/flush, roosters piling out of a small plumb thicket, gun never left the shoulder, never took a step, three shots, three rosters. Impossible to have counted the number of birds that came out. The quail were a bonus on the way back.

Waterfowl

A flock of mallards rafted in open water surrounded with ice.

A blue sky background really magnifies the green heads on mallard drakes. The whistle of their wings as they come in is a sound that can only be appreciated by those that have heard it.

Spring Turkey

The collective observation of your Association staff and several hunter/members is that we anticipate a tougher than last year spring turkey season. Winter flock numbers in size and counts are down with the only correlation we can detect being increased coyote numbers. The coyote population is also healthy with little mange observed.
