One More Day

Most Mid-West waterfowl hunters consider the mallard drake the most beautiful and duck of choice.

Depending on the winter weather patterns, which change from year to year, Thanksgiving to the last day of the season have been the peak migration period for the mallard on MAHA wetlands.

On this particular day there was a south wind and the ducks were ducks feeding in a corn field nearby and resting on the south side of the lake out of the wind.

The wind created good motion for the decoys but it was late-December and the ducks were weary. It’s always nice to end the day with a limit, but it’s hard to beat the beauty of a crisp winter evening watching the sun set after a hard hunt.
