Hunting Team

From Bob and Joanie who enjoy nature watching as much as the hunts. Joanie sent in the Meadow Lark picture as it happens to be the Kansas State bird. They had a tough turkey hunt this year as many experienced with weather and unpredictable turkey movement. Their comment was they set up to see them, not get them.

Thanks Joanie for the picture variety.

Quail

From the same hunter that sent in this harvest picture are some dog on point showing habitat pictures. In this case it was this dog's first season in the field. The comments below each pictures captured from the conversation that went with the picture delivery.

We only bag this many for a first year dog, otherwise it is a different kind of hunt.

This was the cover on the farm that gave them one of the best quail hunts this season. Took 4 hours to cover this one spot.

Not all the cover was as thick as in the overall habitat picture seen above as there were plenty of wooded creek bottoms and fence lines.

The cover did thicken up in spots showing a variety to the vegetation.

Shooting did become difficult and bird in the bag rate compared to points dropped in several areas of this one farm.

In this section of the farm shooting ceased (could not see over the cover) and the time spent taking pictures and flushing quail. The bottom line for as first season dog she did great. It was a good season. We had fun. And, these pictures help with the memories.

Thank you for the pictures Bob, they remind us well what we are not doing now.
