17 Nov DeerThank you Terry for sharing your pictures.
Most of us within our circle of hunter acquaintances all know a hunter or two with more success than most. Terry is such a hunter. He works at it hard and it pays off. Congratulations Terry on another one.
DuckDry years rarely means no water and ducks are there.
DemocratsEven with the recent implosion within the democratic political party it does appear the anti hunter groups have won a number of local issues and picked up nationally known spokesmen. 14 Nov DuckEmail feedback: Good morning, I hunted in [location deleted] opening day of the north zone and met long time member Bob D. I passed on several shots early but ended up with a 1 woody 1 gadwall 1 teal and a drake pintail. This past Saturday Joe L. hunted the [location deleted]. We could have been done by 0800 but past on many birds and ended up with 1 wood duck the rest were a mixed bag of gadwall teal and 5 mallards the group hunting in [location deleted] also had a good day. Thank you for all of you help and look forward to the remainder of the season. Pat
Below is Danny (left) Dexter (right) on their first season with MAHA.
Upland BirdJohn, Here is a photo of my dogs and a couple hard earned birds on my first MAHA hunt. I saw birds in each MAHA field I hunted. I didn't get into any quail, but I focused on pheasant habitat. Most of the birds I took were huge roosters from last year's hatch. I regret dressing out my last rooster. He was an obvious veteran and had the longest tail feathers and spurs I personally have ever seen. I should have had him mounted!
I did witness some good dog work both pre and post shot. I don't know how you can recover a bird in that tall grass without a dog? I will need to remember to bring extra batteries for my beeper collars next time.
The grass wears out both hunter and dog! I wore new pair of Danner boots and the toes already need to be reinforced. The dogs' feet are trashed also. I will boot them up early next time.
Thanks for your help. I look forward to many more hunts. Bryan
