23 November PheasantJohn, I had a great four day hunt even though the weather was horrible. Temps were in the 70s and it was tough hunting for the dogs. Both dogs were "DONE" by noon at the latest. However, we did put a few birds in the bag, saw some VERY nice mule deer bucks and picked up another buck skull with antlers attached. Here are some pictures if you'd like to share with our members. John, I just thought I would let you know I had a great couple hunts in [location deleted] this week. I saw several nice bucks and blew it on a nice eight point that I wounded Monday morning. I gave him four hours to lay down and die and picked up the trail I tracked him until I jumped him backed out and picked up the trail the next morning. I tracked him for about 300 more yards until I jumped him up again. He was no longer bleeding and at 36 hours after the shot I felt very confident he will survive. I saw the same buck Saturday November 11 five days after I hit him fighting with another buck and appeared to be no worse for the experience. I felt bad as this is the only deer I have wounded in 23 years of hunting with a bow but glad he survived.
I ended up filling my buck tag Saturday morning with a decent four point. I normally would not shoot a buck with four points but he was mature just a small rack, he field dressed at 143 lbs. I also knew it would be my last real hunt until mid December due to Military obligations so if I got a shot I better take it.
Well the landowner is a great guy and I really love that farm. Now that I have a deer down I can start hunting birds and ducks again and I am sure my dog will be happy. I just wanted to let you know I am very satisfied with the association and look forward to many great hunts in the future. Here are a few pictures for you of scouting back a few months ago and one of my buck.
