Standing Crops

Upland bird hunters expect to walk around, not through standing crop fields - early season.

"...Iowa Agricultural Statistics Service on October 22, shows harvest progress in Iowa is now lagging behind normal...only 41% of the 2007 corn crop in Iowa has been harvested...off-farm grain storage rates 17% short, 80% adequate and 3% surplus. On-farm grain storage availability currently rates 27% short, 71% adequate and 2% surplus..."

First Year Member Success

To Maha Staff,

Thanks so much for a great job in securing and administrating such absolutely wonderful hunting properties.

First, let me say that I read many of the testimonials of successful and not successful hunts before joining Maha in the Spring of 2007. Although skeptical as many others most likely were, this associations lands speak for themselves. Not having a chance to come out from my home near New Orleans, due to work commitments, to turkey hunt, I did find the time to do some effective scouting during the summer months, which really helped out in locating many potential hotspots for my first Maha deer hunt in [location deleted]. Following the advice given me by staff, I applied for and received a [location deleted], allowing me to hunt for the first time ever in [location deleted]. I was not disappointed, as on the second day of my hunt, Sept. 16, I took my best deer to date, a 13 point, rough scoring in the mid 130's, after seeing several smaller bucks that day, in [location deleted], just a few miles south of the [location deleted], which is one of the properties suggested to me by John. "Thank You very much." While there, I had a chance to look at several other farms that look great for future hunts. All of the farms that I scouted, both recommended by John and those that I selected, were loaded with deer sign....This was just a great hunting experience, where I saw more antlered deer, 8 in one hunt, than I have seen in the last several years hunting at home. Leaving [location deleted], I headed to [location deleted] for some archery hunting before going home. Although not having a shot at the buck I was looking for, I spent several days on some great hunting land, seeing many deer each day. In one case, I had a one horned buck"4 point" follow me adjacent to a corn field for close to 1/4 mile before he decided to go on about his business. All said, we as members of this association are blessed with great Mid West hunting land, due to the diligence of the Maha staff and Mother Nature. Lets all do our part to keep it that way. You have my commitment!!! looking forward to my next trip in November, Sincerely. [name deleted]

If you wish you can print my name and phone #[number deleted] as I will be glad to refer anyone to this great association. I am looking forward to many years as a member and if there is anything I can do to assist in furthering your goals to continue to make this a great place to enjoy the outdoors for our members, please let me know.

Thank you so much for the great review, congratulations on your personal best and we are sure you will have more success to come.
