Turkey Season, so far
I wanted to send you guys some nice success pics [location deleted], but the weather has been cold and wet, and the bird I shot flopped himself into a muddy, bloody mess...so none of my pics turned out "showcase worthy". It was just ugly. The birds were gobbling, but they were henned-up bad. I actually had to put my gun and vest down to sneak up and sprint into the middle of a flock to break them up...fall huntin' style. :) It took about two hours for them regroup and for me to call one of the longbeards to the end of my gun barrel. I was trying Hevi-13 shells for the first time, and they were devastating at 35 yards. I apparently smashed some arteries on this hard-gobblin', late-hatch two-year-old, because his head and neck were flopping, and blood was spraying everywhere. I was amazed and kind of grossed-out at the same time. The kill was quick, but not so clean. I'm not sure what else to say, except that I hope to get another one that'll take better pictures. I've attached a "as he lays" pics just to show you guys what I'm talking about. It was about the cleanest pic that I had... thanks,
Jerad

Thanks Jerad. Always good to hear about adapting tactics to conditions.

Feedback
Good comments continue to come in from Association hunters out and about.

One that stuck with us went along the lines that it is not that turkey hunting is bad, meaning in Iowa, Kansas and Missouri this spring, it is that we have been spoiled by so many good years. What we have out our way is far better than what that hunter expressed about turkey hunting his home state.

The Barber County update continues to bring comments more to the positive side than negative with all seeming to agree that Barber County has big deer to include on ground not appearing to be "deer ground".

Be Safe
Now that turkey season is in full throttle, we'd like to wish all of our hunters the best of luck and remind everyone to be careful at all times. One precaution to pass on would be to wrap your decoys or tagged bird in a blaze orange vest while carrying them out of the woods.
