Layout Blinds
Over the past few years, we have cut back on the number of permanent waterfowl blinds and increased the number of wade-in areas. With increases in hunting equipment technology, there are many products available to the waterfowl hunter that rival permanent blinds. One that has only been used by a handful of members the past couple of years is the layout blind.

Members are welcome to use layout blinds in the designated wade-in areas, lakes and ponds without blinds, but encouraged to only use them in shallow water for safety purposes. Some of our shallow water habitat provides food while others only provide natural cover to conceal the blinds. On our managed wetlands, the most common shallow water vegetation that provides food is smartweed, millet and crop stubble. Our lakes and ponds have sporadic natural grasses, cattail and lilly pads. Cattail is as good as it gets for cover while lilly pads are undesirable to ponds and lakes.

When the dirt paths leading to our wetlands and lakes are wet, ATV’s are allowed to drag layout blinds and gear to and from the water. If the ground is dry, vehicles are allowed to transport blinds and gear to and from the water, but limited to the designated paths on the maps.

The distance from the parking areas to the water varies from as little as 150 yards to as much as 2.5 miles in Holt County if the gate is closed. If the roads, dirt or gravel are wet, park and enter by foot or ATV. Any type of rut is a direct threat to the club's relationship with the landowners.
