30 December

Quail
Libby held this point for a good amount of time. When we walked in 2 big toms took off out the back side. When we dropped our guard a nice covey slipped us through the trees with their speed.

The singles went multiple directions giving us dogs point down the fence line each way. easily 20 birds in that covey.

Libby pointing a covey on the fifth farm of the day. We about had our fill of walking that day.

We ended up hunting 5 farms and found four coveys. We shot 7 birds and did not follow singles hard to give the birds a break since the weather was turning bad.

TJ and Libby were both on point at the same time. We went in on Libby and flushed a covey. PJ stayed on point through the covey rise and shooting and held a single that must have strayed from the covey.

Our schedule has been to hunt hard one day, slack off the next and then make it a half day and drive home the third.

Shooting success is relative to our fatigue factor.

Farming
Higher wheat prices could linger, by Phyllis Jacobs Griekspoor, The Wichita Eagle, Dec. 29, 2007.
"There has been a fundamental change in the global wheat market, experts say, and buyers and processors should plan for higher priced wheat for the next several years. Wheat prices topped $10 a bushel this month on the Kansas City Board of Trade while trading on the Chicago Board of Trade for hard red spring wheat topped out at $11.30. At the same time, Kansas producers have already signed contracts for part of 2008 production as futures prices into next summer continue to run above $8 a bushel."

Years from now this will seem like the good old days.
