True Story - Having the day off from school TJ, the clubs map master spent the morning working the office. As a flock of Canada geese walked across the front lawn he took advantage of the opportunity to take a photo of the birds next to our sign.

With a steady flow of geese coming and going over the office, TJ made a reservation with Shaun for his father to take him on a two hour, spur of the moment Kansas evening goose hunt.

After a single came in and his father harvested one bird, 5 came in and TJ made his first triple and all three were banded. A dream come true for a waterfowl fanatic.

Results from yesterday afternoon's shed hunting on one of our farms. I've hunted [this farm] over the last few years and scored on some quality bucks, but until yesterday, I've shied away from [location deleted] because of the farmhouse and cattle. The picture of the "underutilized lease" on the updates page prompted me to take a little closer look at the map and aerial shots. What appeared to be a thin bulge on the map is in fact about 10 -15 acres of woods that the cattle can't reach, and it's filled with big buck sign....shed in the upper left corner dwarves them all, scoring 74 inches with a 28 inch main beam, 5 7/8 inch base, and a two inch drop tine....aerial shots help with scouting, but actually walking the ground is the only way to get a full appreciation for the terrain. As for me, I now know where the Big Boy's core area is, and I won't be waiting until the rut to hunt him...

We'll keep this Association hunter anonymous. We published parts of his text for all the value his word speak. For the rest of us as we do know who this hunter is and the deer he has harvested all would do well to heed his words.

Thank you for the great feedback.

Deer Tags
One more chance for all of the Association hunters to work well together and make for better hunts. All those that have a Kansas and/or Iowa deer tag, both resident and non-resident need to provide a readable copy of that tag by FAX, 816-765-5464, email (jpg), or snail mail: MAHA, 11922 Grandview Road, Grandview Missouri 64030.

How this regulation makes for better hunts is due to:

Only buck tag holders can make reservations during peak period, buck season and in cases of higher than desired number of tags in any one particular unit/zone. Doe tag only hunters can wait until doe only season.

Prevention of unscrupulous members that do not have a buck tag from making reservations to hunt for their buddies that do have tags and block out land from others. And, as happened last year, we found a father and son team where the father had a buck tag, his son (no deer tag) was making reservations to coyote hunt during peak deer season.

If any one unit/zone shows a higher than past experience tag draw or a higher tag draw than we are comfortable with relative to deer ground in that unit (last year it was Kansas unit 9 and 16) we cut off Association application for anyone with a tag for that unit/zone. After tag issue there is always an increase in membership applications that exceed openings.

A good check on who is and who is not a good Association hunter showing we are a better organization than most.
