Upland Bird Hunters
The ones that enjoy the bird hunt the most are the upland hunters that always take more dog pictures than any other picture. From some local members that upland bird hunt only passing on deer, turkey and waterfowl that hunt separately as well as together any chance they get. And, like most hunters they have private land to hunt as well as enjoy what MAHA has to offer for that added benefit of seeing new ground in other states.

From Don: The old warhorse Zeke (above) in his vest. I suggest these vests for older dogs - even around the kennel and especially when traveling and in and out of the vehicle or dog trailer.

Dot putting the hurt on a covey.

A cold day pheasant by Ken's - dogs trailed him for about quarter mile in CRP before pinning him down with nice point and good teamwork. Some pictures from last season I thought you would like - Ken and I with a late season limit and Dan going in a nice covey point in the brush. The pointer is my half shorthair and half pointer Dot and the setter is Dan's Milly - she has been a great dog over the years and is dying of breast cancer diagnosed at the beginning of this season. Very steady and dependable and a team hunter with my dogs - will be a heart breaker when she goes. The dogs are the heart of our hunt - I will get you more pictures in the future - I had gotten away from my habit of carrying a camera. Nice back from his daughter Dot in the third picture. I see these pictures and wish the season was still going.

Old dog with old tricks - this is 13 year old Zeke with a rooster that he not only retrieved but had the point on.

Pictures of Ken and Roger, Roger with his first [location deleted] birds.

We will all get to that point when we no longer can hunt but have the lingering memories of past hunts.

Pictures such as these will be dug out of drawers, boxes or looked at in frames on the wall. Seeing our pictures again will make all the hard days melt away and the good ones the only thoughts. They will be what brings a smile to our face long after that last dog has see his day.

Thanks Don and crew for some good reminders showing we work not to work but to enjoy dogs, friends and life.

Long Time Deer Hunter Success
Jon, John and Shaun,
I had another pretty good deer season this year. I hunted all three states this year and came away with one decent buck and a smaller one that I probably wouldn't have shot if I had taken a closer look (it was on the run in some high grass and I thought it was bigger). Also helped out the farmers with 5 does and a coyote (missed another one). Had some trouble with trespassers and the weather wasn't good and the hunting hard on a couple of my hunts but overall had a good year with lots of good memories. I met a really nice farmer and wife who took me in like family-they were just great! Thanks to all of you for the opportunity to hunt on some really good places.
Sincerely RW

Thank you for the great pictures especially of the doe. Always good to encourage doe harvest every chance we get.
